INTRODUCTION

Brian Stepaniak on the Lucy Dalton Replica

The foundation of Scaled Plus was laid back in 2004 when Brian Stepaniak, a mechanical engineer residing just outside of North Bay, Ontario, Canada, was presented with the unique opportunity to apply his experience designing industrial locomotives to the world of large scale park trains. Representatives from a local park development project intent on integrating the historical rail theme of the park, with a public transportation system met with an international manufacturer of mining and tunneling locomotives to discuss options for their vision. During this first meeting, their dream met with an engineer who is really an artist at heart and in conjunction with the locomotive manufacturer, all the necessary pieces were in place for their vision to become a reality.

Scaled Plus is built on the engineering experience gained from 12 years of designing and building custom machinery for industry. Domestic and international projects range from product design and proto-typing, to industrial troubleshooting and process refitting. During that time, numerous locomotive designs were supplied to meet the special needs of clients in the mining and tunneling industry. It is that experience and success in industrial locomotive design combined with a hands on working knowledge of exactly what is required to manufacture an efficient, reliable, and cost effective product we feel gives Scaled Plus its credibility.

The following pages explain the journey in getting from that first meeting to here. This site will also give the reader an understanding of what is possible through the services of Scaled Plus to allow their imagination to step past the confines of "what is", and explore the realm of "what could be". We start by sharing how one dream came to be, then explain the philosophy behind why we took the approach we did with using battery power. We're proud of our accomplishments and would like to make your dream a reality too.
